Galerkin Boundary Element Methods for Electromagnetic Scattering

چکیده
Methods based on boundary integral equations are widely used in the numerical simulation of electromagnetic scattering in the frequency domain. This article examines a particular class of these methods, namely the Galerkin boundary element approach, from a theoretical point of view. Emphasis is put on the fundamental differences between acoustic and electromagnetic scattering. The derivation of various boundary integral equations is presented, properties of their discretized counterparts are discussed, and a-priori convergence estimates for the boundary element solutions are rigorously established.

Stabilized FEM-BEM Coupling for Maxwell Transmission Problems
We consider the scattering of monochromatic electromagnetic waves at a dielectric object with a non-smooth surface. This paper studies the discretization of this problem by means of coupling finite element methods (FEM) and boundary element methods (BEM). Straightforward symmetric coupling as in [R. متن کاملAn efficient implementation of boundary element methods for computationally expensive Green’s functions
We describe an implementation technique for boundary element methods that greatly reduces the required number of evaluations of the Green’s function. Assuming that evaluating the Green’s function is a costly operation, our approach has a computational cost that is almost independent of the chosen discretization scheme. Nyström methods, collocation methods and Galerkin methods lead to similar co...
متن کاملA Galerkin Boundary Element Method for High Frequency Scattering by Convex Polygons
In this paper we consider the problem of time-harmonic acoustic scattering in two dimensions by convex polygons. Standard boundary or finite element methods for acoustic scattering problems have a computational cost that grows at least linearly as a function of the frequency of the incident wave. Here we present a novel Galerkin boundary element method, which uses an approximation space consist...
متن کاملElement Free Galerkin Method for Static Analysis of Thin Micro/Nanoscale Plates Based on the Nonlocal Plate Theory
In this article, element free Galerkin method is used for static analysis of thin micro/nanoscale plates based on the nonlocal plate theory. The problem is solved for the plates with arbitrary boundary conditions. Since shape functions of the element free Galerkin method do not satisfy the Kronecker’s delta property, the penalty method is used to impose the essential boundary conditions. Discre...
متن کاملA new coupling of mixed finite element and boundary element methods for an exterior Helmholtz problem in the plane
This paper deals with the scattering of time harmonic electromagnetic waves by an infinitely long cylinder containing a non-homogeneous conducting medium. More precisely, we study the transverse magnetic field that solves an interface problem holding between the cross section of the cylinder and the exterior two-dimensional free space. We apply a dual-mixed variational formulation in the obstac...
